Festival - fabulous fans and terrific tackles

Posted 24 Nov 2013 by Saffron in Young Reporters

I and my friends went to Headingley to report the men's police rugby match between Australia and Fiji. The first thing we heard as we went into the stadium was the singing of Fiji supporters, which was so inspirational that you wanted to join in.

As the game continued three players were sin binned and one injured. In perfect harmony the Fiji supporters sang in support as the injured player was carried off the field.

As this wasn't my first rugby match, I was expecting the teams to be supported by family and friends, but to my surprise members of other teams were there as well to support the finalists.

I also expected it to be loud and aggressive both on and off the field, but I was wrong, there was little aggression. Players 3 and 16 from the women's final were the most aggressive - and they were the best!
